Senth Sensors in Vibration Condition Monitoring of Rotating Equipment

Background

Rotating machinery is widely used across power, petrochemical, metallurgy, manufacturing, and aerospace industries—critical to production and safety. Unavoidable factors frequently cause various faults, degrading or disabling equipment and even leading to serious accidents, casualties, and economic losses.

Vibration monitoring effectively reduces such risks. Vibration is a primary cause of mechanical faults, and different fault types manifest distinct vibration signatures. By monitoring and analyzing vibration signals, equipment operating status and trends can be tracked in real time—enabling early fault detection and timely maintenance before serious failures or accidents occur.

Significance of Vibration Monitoring

1. Supports the industry trend toward "fewer personnel, unattended operation" through real-time online monitoring and remote status awareness.

2. Provides data records and signal analysis for post-accident investigation, reducing fault diagnosis time and downtime losses.

3. Enables early detection of potential faults through trend analysis and anomaly detection—extending service life and improving availability.

4. Supports rational maintenance scheduling, driving the shift from corrective/periodic maintenance to condition-based maintenance.

5. Enables remote expert diagnosis, addressing on-site expert shortages and improving diagnostic efficiency.

Application Analysis

Equipment Condition Monitoring and Analysis Systems

Layered distributed architecture: each monitored object (generator set, pump, reducer, etc.) has a field station connected via network to a central station. Field stations acquire vibration and other data; the central station performs time-domain, frequency-domain, variable-speed, time-frequency, correlation trend, comparative, and wavelet analyses, with fault symptom extraction, expert diagnosis, and condition assessment.Advantages: high information content, accurate and comprehensive. Disadvantages: complex functionality, high cost, limited and immature models.

Online Vibration Monitoring SystemsFor many rotating machines in industrial settings, full condition monitoring systems are unnecessary and infeasible. Given the wide variety of equipment and divergent diagnostic models—with no unified model yet compatible with all—a lower-cost vibration monitoring system providing complete data acquisition and basic analysis is both necessary and practical.
