Why do Chinese sensors rely on imports for a long time? Only 6% of the over 7000 domestic sensor companies have an output value exceeding 100 million! Experts discuss the urgent needs of the industry (recommended)

Information technology consists of collection, transmission, and processing, namely sensor, communication, and computer technology. With the integration of technologies such as big data, high computing power, and large models, as well as the arrival of artificial intelligence, the importance of sensors has become more prominent. How to build a complete industrial chain based on semiconductor MEMS process technology and sensitive mechanisms, and form a "dual ecological" industrial synergy system integrating government, industry, academia, research, application, and service, is the urgent task for the development of sensor industrialization.

In the 2020 Blue Book of China's Sensor (Technology, Industry) Development, it is specifically mentioned that "the proportion of imported mid to high end sensors in China is 80%, and the import of sensor chips is as high as 90%. There is a huge gap in localization, and the overall industry is weak. There is a serious shortage of digital, intelligent, miniaturized and other products required for major national equipment, and high-end products mainly rely on imports.

In recent years, many experts and academicians have provided suggestions and recommendations. Across the country, there has been a surge in efforts to promote the construction of intelligent sensing industry parks and "sensing valleys". It seems that overnight, the sensor industry has rapidly entered the scorching summer from the sunny and colorful "spring" to the scorching and hot "summer".

1. Sensors and Information Technology

Currently, with the integration and innovation of technologies such as big data, high computing power, and large models, the fourth wave of informatization has suddenly emerged, and humanity has fully entered the new era of artificial intelligence. The fourth wave of informatization aims to shift system functionality from perception to cognition, which is a disruptive technology in multi-dimensional and complex scenarios. The theme, duration, and trend chart of the wave of informatization are shown in Figure 1.

From Figure 1, it can be seen that through the first three waves of informatization, information technology has completed a complete system foundation from data information processing, communication, and collection. The subsequent wave of informatization is also based on data, which is like the blood of the human body, becoming the lifeline and core of the system. The dependence on sensing technology, namely sensor technology, has become increasingly evident as the data used has decreased from small to large and from single to complex.

Sensors, as the only functional device for data information acquisition, are known as the "mother of data" and provide the necessary raw data for system control, processing, decision-making, and execution. They are the focal point of industrial digitization and digital industrialization. In modern control systems, it is located at the interface between the tested object and the testing system, forming the main "window" for information exchange, directly affecting and determining the functionality of the system.

Metaphorically, if the human body is viewed as a complete information system, then the computer is the "brain", communication is the "nerves", and sensors are the "facial features" and "skin", sensing all environmental data information and being the source of obtaining all external information.

In manufacturing production, many process control systems have multiple functions that are difficult to implement due to complex scenarios and inability to obtain data information, becoming the biggest obstacle to system functionality. This makes many "intelligent" systems "only capable" and "intelligent" systems "only capable" or "intelligent". It can be said without exaggeration that without sensors, the Internet of Things is impossible to talk about.
