Recently, Sony Semiconductor Solutions (SSS) announced the launch of a new global shutter CMOS image sensor, IMX901. It is reported that this sensor has a horizontal 8K resolution, approximately 16.41 million effective pixels, and has a wide screen ratio. This product is compatible with the widely used C-mount lenses in the industrial field, providing a solution to address diverse industrial challenges through highly integrated high image quality and high-speed performance.
According to the data, the IMX901 provides high-definition wide-angle images through 8K horizontal pixels and 2K vertical pixels, while adopting a special pixel structure and Pregius S ™ Global shutter technology, although small in size, ensures low noise, high image quality, high-speed, and clear imaging.
In addition to IMX901, SSS will also launch the "IMX902" with approximately 12.38 million effective pixels (6K horizontal pixels and 2K vertical pixels), further enriching the product lineup of global shutter image sensors.
In the current logistics system, with the widening and acceleration of conveyor belts, the industry's demand for image sensors that can expand the imaging area of package barcodes, improve imaging performance and efficiency is increasing. Usually, in order to bring the entire conveyor belt into view, the system needs to be equipped with multiple cameras, which may lead to an increase in camera system volume and cost.
The camera equipped with IMX901 can capture a wider range of images in the horizontal direction at once, which significantly reduces the number and cost of cameras compared to traditional solutions. In addition, the IMX901 adopts Sony's innovative backlight structure, the Pregius S, which can achieve clear high-speed imaging while ensuring high image quality. It also has a high dynamic range of over 70dB and can capture moving objects at a high frame rate of 134fps, ensuring clear images.
This product has a wide screen ratio, high image quality, and high-speed imaging capability, which is not only suitable for precise tracking and reading of barcodes on conveyor belts in logistics sites, but also widely used in various application scenarios such as machine vision inspection, as well as visual inspection for identifying minor defects or scratches.
Meanwhile, the product supports a maximum SLVS-EC interface of 9.5Gbps/lane, enabling high-definition and high-speed frame rate imaging. Due to the high data transmission rate of a single channel, the number of data channels can be reduced, providing broader possibilities for the selection of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array).
In addition, IMX901 not only supports the commonly used SLVS interface in industrial cameras, but also is compatible with MIPI interface, which can be flexibly applied to various camera system configurations to meet user needs.
